Pouya Badkoubeh’s ‘Dressage’ has won big at the 2019 International Oriental Film Festival (FIFOG) of Geneva.
The film that counts as the director’s debut feature has grabbed the Golden FIFOG which is the best film award of the 14th edition of the Swiss film event.
Produced by Samira and Rouhollah Baradari, the 95-minute feature tells the story of Golsa and her friends who, motivated primarily by boredom rather than greed, decide to rob a corner shop.
While evaluating the robbery, they are dismayed to realize that they forgot to bring along the CCTV footage; so one of them must return to the crime scene and the vote falls on Golsa.
Negar Moqaddam is the young actress who plays the lead role Golsa in the film. She won the Best Actress award from the 2018 Shanghai International Film Festival.
This Chinese win is one among many that film has had so far. It has attended a big number of international events and has bagged many awards such as the jury award of the 68th edition of the Berlin Film Festival in Germany.
Besides Negar Moqaddam, Ali Mosaffa, Shabnam Moqaddami, Houshang Tavakkoli, Ali-Reza Aqakhani, Ali-Reza Sanifar, Jalal Fatemi, Yasna Mirtahmasb, and Siamak Adib are also among the cast.
The FIFOG is an important cinematographic event in the cultural landscape of French-speaking Switzerland, which promotes cinema, diversity and intercultural dialogue. It annually presents 100 films of all genres, along with about 60 guests from around the world.
The 14th edition of the FIFOG held April 29-May 5, 2019, in Geneva.
